More than pasta

So today Jonna decided not only to surprise me with having done all the groceries for what we wanted to make today in advance but had also found and bought two of my favorite movies for us. I've been a great fan of Hayao Miyazaki for a good while and i just can't wait to get some time together so we can dig ourselves down into the sofa and watch them. Thinking back at today, it's been a great day and an even better evening (even though we spent two hours just snoring away :D).

Kiitos rakas.

Greek pasta salad

That's all, and that's just fine.

Walrus

Light therapy lamp wanted.
Must be combinable with cozy companion, not cuboid.

Disgustiiing...

I'm finally getting an air cleaner to my classroom. The past weeks have been a pain because of the fact that the air seriously feels thick with mold spores.

Healthy!

Night of the living... all kinds of things.

When death won't do us part. Pretty, eh?

The past week was pretty fun with the schools disco and all. The kids really loved the party and they raised my hopes for a proper party generation growing up (it's either golden childhood memories or then the end of the 90s really where one huge party, cause that's close to all i remember from that time). I also once again was reminded of how lucky i am to have gotten the opportunity to work with such a great bunch of colleagues that are ready to stand up for me no matter what the issue might be. It's quite perplexing how some people think the schools are actually trying to work against the kids and the homes, it's a kind of logic that really beats me.

Friday night i got a chance to do yet another gig which was pretty cool. What was even cooler was the fact that it turned out a small rap crew, Sustain, was supposed to have a short gig in the middle of the evening. I had never even heard about the bunch but since they gave me a free gig and some slack in the middle of my job i decided to like them, not to mention that they we're really nice people too. To be honest they weren't half that bad and if you like some Finnish rap then why don't check them out.

The photo above is from Saturday nights (pre)Halloween party that we enjoyed at a friends place. The evening was filled with awesome people, great food and some pretty disturbing creepiness. Thanks to everyone who was there, in particular to our great photograph.

After all this busyness Sunday rolled on pretty cozily with me staying over at my girls place and us having just a really lazy but good time. Although we did go to a yard sale where we found an old X-box with a bunch of games for just 20€ (and a bunch of other stuff too). Needless to say it was a must buy and so we spent a good part of the evening whacking away with it.

Thanks for a great weekend Love.

And thanks for a good time to everyone else, new or old, that i met during these evenings.

Back on track

Having just finished making a list of songs for tomorrow for the kids and their school disco i think i deserve a small break to breathe out after the first day after the holidays (even though i did cut some slack in form of some gaming too). My day wasn't really that long but i spent a good while putting stuff that was long due into some shape and correcting tests. Also i had to hunt down some ice cream and look around for some stuff for a coming Halloween party with my girl. I guess i also feel pretty happy for a couple of my friends. I don't know why it is, but it seems like there has been so much trouble in so many forms for so many, and now finally life is taking a victory of those things.

But so, the autumn holidays passed by peacefully and calmly. I didn't really much even touch the computer during the whole time. I simply didn't feel like i needed to. We did a lot despite letting the days pass by slowly. It's actually pretty neat how much you can get done when you don't have to spend every second moment worrying about something.

We had a nice evening with board games, met the people at the drama club again (interestingly enough with close to no results whatsoever on the projects which led to some frustration), cooked food and ate lots of ice cream. The highlight was the carnival of lights at Linnanmäki, the amusement park in Helsinki. The city really looks pretty different when seen from above at night.

It's not always the big picture.
It's them small things.

Fall, asleep

Today after work i went down to the after school club to sit and chat with my friend and old co-worker (from when i was an classroom assistant) over a cup of coffee. I guess it was a welcome visit since i brought with me a little bit of order too as the kids tend to take me seriously. The kids enjoyed it too of course as i always sit and talk to them too, give them ideas for stuff to do when they are bored and sometimes play board games with them.

Generally speaking the days are dark and rainy and I'm terribly tired. Still, it doesn't really bother me because the warmth and comfort of the autumn holidays is only a couple of days away. I decided to refuse any gigs, refuse any party invites and keep myself away from the computers. It's a time I'm dedicating for only two people.

Good night and good luck,
The man who talks to the raidio

Pasta vs. Jetlag

Giggly

Some discussions with customers from the gigs.

- Fuck you! You have piss in your brain!
(for not playing rolling stones while people are dancing to latest hits.

- Play my request now!
- Im sorry but there's a lot of other requests so you have to wait.
- Play my song right now because im going to leave.
(sure i will... especially when you are not paying my salary as long as you're not buying any more drinks here)

- This music sucks! You can't even dance to it
- Well what are those people doing then? (while i point at the crowded dance floor)
- Well... they are wiggling.

This customer kept on coming back every few beers.
- Could you please play some Finnish rap or hiphop?
- Could you play, you know, that cool music, like you played earlier?
- Could you, you know! Well just play something cool, you're the best!!
- Great PARY! AWESOME DJ!! PLAY THE GOOD STUFF!!!
- Erble warble... shfudle umm offlomm... errrr... ....
( At first i thought i had damaged my ears or was too tired to make out what he was saying, then i though he was having a seizure and finally i realized the guy was just incredibly drunk and should not have been able to stand upright by any sane logic)

Some times the conversations really get downright silly but for the most part i have been receiving compliments and thanks. People also seem to start recognizing me and tonight a customer even asked when i would be playing there again.

Now to push my head full with sleep in the cozy bed that was once again made for me. Have you ever heard the story of the luckiest guy in the world? Well, i guess mine is pretty much that story.

Define fate.

So here I am, back from my third gig. Sitting down in my kitchen and enjoying terrific pasta that my girl cooked for me earlier today. What more could a man ask for?

The gigs have all been in the same place and it seems there is nothing that one could call normal with the job. Every single time something technical is or gets messed up at some point. This on one hand makes stuff pretty interesting but on the other hand somewhat troublesome. The customers in turn don't seem to follow any logic. Sometimes they dance and party to the fullest no matter how crappy the mixing is or what songs i play and on other times i can be running a perfect set with the songs that should by any sane logic fill the room and all that happens is that someone comes up and makes an request that seems like its from another planet. Still, for me, the most important things is that people enjoy their evening and i always try to adapt to that.

Tomorrow night its rinse and repeat.
I've found my life.

Le Havre

Where did stories like this go?

"This did not just happen..."

So here i am typing to my girl, writing all kinds of pretty and silly things about how much I love her. Then after I send it I realize I sent it to my employer...

Good night and good luck!

-Captain of the failboat!
:D

Long post is longer than longcat

So the week rolled on pretty okay. Work has been a bit more tough than usually due to various reasons but things turned out pretty fine and we even saw a humongous pumpkin at the school yard one day.

Why and where from?

On Friday i managed to sneak a little leave for myself from work since i had to go and do the driving on the slippery track. In a way it made my day a bit longer but since it turned out to be pretty fun i wont complain about it. We got to see how humongous a moose is compared to a car and how a car easily turns into a raisin in an accident. I got to sit in a car that got turned upside down and had to ninja myself loose from the seat belt and out the windows. And also saw what slamming into object at already low speeds could do to you. Great fun!

The view from the starting squares down to the tracks

Well it was all interesting but the real fun started on the driving track. It was like driving on the worst type of ice since the track is made out of metal plates covered in oil. I did fairly well so i got some room to play around and try a few things with the car and so i left the track pretty content.

I ate my first real meal of the day out in a park while she wanted to take some photos. The photos turned out pretty fine if you ask me. :P The evening and the following day we spent cozily at home, with a little bit of drama club meeting and dining in between.

Hometown

Last night i got to do my second gig. Thats when shit hit the fan. I arrived with just enough time to set up my own system. This was good but i clearly had forgotten about Murphy and his law. For some reason the soundsystem was blasting out music in the hallways and toilets at full power and the mixer gave out terrible distortion on one channel. So what i had to do was play music from only one deck instead of two (which made me sound like an iTunes playlist) while simultaneously hugging the mixer and drowning in cabel spaghetti. When this was done i had to hectically work out the right knob (out of a gazillion) to mange the hallway and toilets with. With a some brain and a bit more luck i managed with it without cutting of the sound from the dancefloor. And when i finally thought i'd sorted it all i got word from a customer that the speakers on the dancefloor gave shittier sound than the speakers above the tables. GREAT! When i was done with all this i was so in my finale that the rest of the gig i went trough half comatose. I guess all was good at the end of the night but i learned a valuable lesson about remembering to soundcheck different parts of the soundsystem (not forgetting toilets) separately before a gig. :D

Now back to finnish grammar with the girl. She's glancing at me with apretty upset expression. :P
